Dr. Rongshun Wang presently works as a Professor at School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). He graduated from Xi’an Jiao Tong University (XJTU) with his B.S and M.S. degrees in Cryogenics in 1985 and 1988, respectively. Immediately after receiving his M.S. at XJTU in 1988, he was recruited by SJTU as an Assistant Lecturer. When working in SJTU, he was successively elevated as a University Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor in 1991, 1994 and 2001, respectively. Since 1996, Dr. Wang also acted as a Ph.D. candidate and conducted thorough research on cryogenics at SJTU, and was granted his Ph.D. degree in 2001. Prof. Wang’s current research interests include: (1) mechanism research of high-vacuum multi-layer insulation and its application, (2) high-pressure cryogenic two-phase flows and heat transfer, (3) design, optimization and manufacturing of cryogenic pressure vessels, and (4) liquefaction and storage-transportation technology of natural gas and other industrial gases. Prof. Wang, as the leading investigator of his research group, has made great contribution in both theoretical development and engineering application of the above research areas. He has published over 80 journal papers and obtained over 10 invention patents. Since 2001, he has been granted with various research funds over CNY 10,000,000, in recognition of his outstanding research talent and outputs, as well as his significant contribution to his research field, especially his great contribution to the application of cryogenic technology in military and spaceflight industries. Meanwhile, due to the close linkage of his research with the industrial demands, Prof. Wang’s research has been widely recognized by the industries and is of a significant impact on the cryogenic industry in China. As the first chief investigator, he has fulfilled many reciprocal and consulting projects with industrial corporations such as China International Marine Containers (Group) Ltd. (CIMC) and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation Ltd. (SCIC). As a professor, Prof. Wang has produced over 10 M.S. and Ph.D. graduates and is presently leading a research group composed of 15 postgraduate and Ph.D. students. He also teaches courses such as “Cryogenic thermodynamics process and heat transfer” and “Cryogenic technology and its application” at SJTU. Besides the scientific research and teaching, Prof. Wang also takes active participation in social activities. Presently, he acts as the Vice General-Secretary at the Portable Pressure Vessel Sub-committee, China Standardization Committee of Boiler and Pressure Vessel, the Vice General-Secretary at the Cryogenic Group, China Standardization Committee, as well as the Trustee of the Chinese Association of Refrigeration. He has made great contributions in compilation and revision of many national and industrial standards of China such as GB/T 18443, JB 4783. In recognition of his outstanding contributions in many important fields, he has been granted many honors including an Excellent Teacher Award granted by the Shanghai Municipality, 2 Science and Technology Progress Awards granted by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (CSTIND) of China.
